Name the event precisely

An automatic transmission can change its behaviour with temperature, driving mode and normal control strategy. The word 'hesitation' is too broad to stand alone. Was there a delay after selecting drive while stationary? A pause during an ordinary gear change? Or did engine speed rise without the expected increase in road speed? Each deserves its own description.

Write down whether the behaviour is new and how it differs from the usual response. Include the exact model and transmission information if available, because conventional automatics, dual-clutch systems and other designs do not all behave alike. A video of a different car is a poor substitute for the manufacturer's explanation of your own vehicle.

Keep selector use conventional

Do not repeatedly switch between forward and reverse to test engagement, and do not attempt unusual selector changes while moving. Follow the handbook's procedure for selecting a direction and holding the vehicle securely. If drive engages unpredictably, the car moves unexpectedly or cannot progress safely, stop using it and arrange professional assistance before another journey.

Record whether the complaint occurs only from cold, after prolonged traffic or under another ordinary condition. Note warning messages and recent servicing. Do not add unspecified transmission fluid or a universal additive to see whether it improves. Fluid type, level-checking method and service procedure can be highly model-dependent; an improvised top-up may create a second problem.

Ask the workshop to distinguish causes

The sensation may involve transmission control, engine response or a mechanical issue. Ask how the planned checks will separate those possibilities. A scan can be part of the investigation, but a code needs surrounding evidence. A recommendation for major work should explain what was confirmed rather than rely solely on the phrase 'gearbox hesitation' or a general reputation for this model.

If a software update or adaptation procedure is proposed, ask why it applies to this vehicle and what supports it. Such procedures are not universal resets to try at home. Keep the findings and clarify how the original complaint will be assessed afterwards. An uneventful warm drive may not answer a delay that happened only on the first selection after an overnight stop.
